Divination ~ Runes (Part 1)

Merry Meet,

After having a "later than planned" start to my studies today, I'm sharing the origins and overview of the Runes.  This is either going to be a 4-week or and 8-week topic series, posting 1-2 times per week.

Runes

Divination & Magic

Origins

The Runic system was originally used in Northern Europe by Nordic and Germanic tribes.  Scholars believe that the runic language came about in the second century BC.  The runic symbols were pictograms representing objects and occurrences in nature.  It was believed that if you called upon the corresponding rune symbol you could connect with that aspect of nature.
Although the runic language is dated back to this time, the runic alphabet is quite recent; there have been numerous runic alphabets throughout Northern Europe.  The most common being Germanic or Elder FUTHARK, which received its name using the first six letters: F, U, TH, A, R, K. and was the most popular from 200 BC to the late eighth century.

Overview
There are 25 runes in a full set, 24 with symbols and 1 blank.  Although originally there were 24 which were divided into 3 groups of 8 called Freya’s Eight, Hagall’s Eight and Tir’s Eight.  The mythology of the runic alphabet was told by the Norse and Anglo-Saxon peoples.

Rune Uses
Charms, Talismans, Inscribing Tools, Protection Amulet, Divination Tool, Jewellery, Spells and Rituals.

Cleansing & Charging Runes

Sound Vibrations – using sound, from a meditation bowl for instance, and wait until the sound in clear and uninterrupted.
Rain or Sea Water – allow them to sit for a small while in the water.
Running Tap Water – allow the water to run directly onto the stones, careful not to remove any ink or paint.
Brown Organic Rice – submerge the stones into a pot of uncooked rice, not touching and let them cleanse and charge for an hour or over night.  The rice can be used for this purpose for 1-3months.
