Merry Meet,
The hubby works with food all day and the amount of times he washes he hands at work, using soaps that are highly fragranced that don't necessarily keep germs at bay. So, I've been working on a recipe that lightly exfoliates that doesn't contain essential oils or powerful fragrance yet still moisturises.
Recipe
- 1lb soap base (SLS free, unscented)
- 1tbs lemon juice
- 1tbs shea butter
- Zest of 1 lemon
- Half tbs cane sugar
Method
- Melt the soap base in the microwave in a heat proof/microwave safe bowl or jug, in 30 second blasts (Mine took 2mins 30secs)
- When the base it almost completely melted, add in the shea butter and put it back in for the final 30-60 seconds (heating shea butter for too long can give it a grainy effect)
- Once all is melted, stir in the lemon juice and zest evenly (test the temperature of your soap to match requirements of your mold)
- Spray your mold with alcohol and pour in the mixture
- Sprinkle the cane sugar on top of the soap in the mold
- Spray again with alcohol and leave to set/cool for around 1-4 hours depending on your mold size
This recipe made 4 whole bars and 6 mini muffin sized soaps
You can clearly see the lemon zest and the sugar throughout the bar
We tested it out with the stray pieces of soap and it lathers really well, doesn't have an overpowering scent and the sugar gentle removes dead cells (or bread dough in the hubby's case!)

Blessed Be
