According to Lady Sabrina's book Celebrating Wiccan Spirituality, today is for honouring Diana (Goddess of the Moon). Not only that, she also protects hunters; she is the guardian of the forest (home of her sacred grove near Aricia); and she is called upon to protect children and animals.
As this is a time where light and life returns to the earth, Diana is invoked to protect all creatures.

bow
I ask You now the way to show
I pray you bless me from this hour
With Your strength and with Your
power
Through times of sorrow and times
of strife
Help me make the most of life
