I've been posting random dates from the book Celebrating Wiccan Spirituality by Lady Sabrina - when I say random I mean the ones that draw me in. This one I found interesting and may consider doing the activity:
Miracle at Lourdes
In 1858, on this day, Our Lady at Lourdes was seen by a poor peasant girl called Bernadatte, which is also the last recorded manifestation at the gorto. It's been known for centuries as the shrine of the Goddess.
Marie Bernarde Soubrious, Bernadatte (1844-1879) had asthma, a lack of education and was very poor. At 14 she had a vision of the Virgin Mary during her time at the bank of River Grace (near Lourdes) whilst she was collecting firewood.
Over the six weeks following the event she saw another 18 visions where the Lady identified herself as "the Immaculate Conception" and insisted that Bernadatte should drink from the spring nearby. She also instructed Bernadatte to erect a temple on the site.
Since then this site has been known for miracle healing powers, and the spring itself provides over 27,000 gallons of water each week.
Magical Activity:
Healing Bath
Items required:
- A white candle
- fresh mint
- fresh lavender
* Light the candle and place it somewhere so but also where it will reflect its light in the water.
* As the water fills in bath, add in the mint and lavender.
* Before you get in, swoosh the herbs around in the water and chant:
"Elements and herbs lead me your power
Bring me healing from this hour"
* Soak for 15 mins
* Stand in the bath and pull the plug, and as the water drains visualise all your aches, pains, problems and health issues leaving your body and flowing down the drain with the water.
