Greek Myth ~ Aphrodite (Part 2)

As I am working on the Olympian's right now I've decided to share some of my findings on Aphrodite, Goddess of Love & Beauty (Part 2):

Aphrodite Part 1
Aphrodite Part 3

Aphrodite
Love & Beauty ~ Continued

Aphrodite’s Lovers

Although Aphrodite had relations with Hermes, Dionysos & Poseidon, there were many more.  Her true love was Adonis, she was seduced by the young man, and she followed him everywhere that she was no longer seen in heaven.  She warned him of death but he did not listen, Adonis was killed by a wild boar and Aphrodite was inconsolable.  Each tear she shed for her lover turned into a rose.

Shrines & Temples

Aphrodite was worshipped by young girls who lived in her temples, these shrines were found in Cyprus, Cythera and Corinth.  The young girls would offer their virginity to passers-by as an offering to Aphrodite.  This rite later became associated with prostitution and slaves were employed in order to perform them.
