Loves & Losses
Poseidon was married to Amphitrite, they had a mermaid son called Triton.  Just like his brother Zeus, Poseidon had multiple love affairs.  He also had an affair with Demeter when She was in the form of a mare, from which He fathered Areon.  Gaia was also His lover, She gave birth to a giant, a whirlpool.  He also attempted to seduce the nymph Scylla but Amphitrite became jealous and transformed her into a monster which had six heads and a girdle of barking dogs.  Scylla was then put opposite Charybdis (the giant) and formed a most dangerous hazard witnessed by Odysseus.

Medusa
Poseidon had a love affair with Medusa, they conceived a winged horse (Pegasus) called Perseus which arose from Her dead body after it killed her, which earned it the hero title.
