Poseidon
Sea & Rivers and Earth-Shaker

Overview
Poseidon (son of Cronos and brother to Zeus & Hades) controlled all that is great and destructive of the Ocean, with it he could bring life and take it away, he could choose who to protect or bring to death at sea.  Poseidon was also the God of Horses, all Lakes, Rivers & Streams, and could cause Earthquakes at will, making mountains split and fall into the sea to create islands.   Poseidon used His trident to cause storms from the waters if other Gods or mortals enraged him.  He journeyed the depths of the ocean on his chariot pulled by golden sea horses.  His Roman counterpart is Neptune who was also the God of racetracks.

Struggle with Titans
The Olympians fought the Titans for ten years over rulership of the world, this brought floods, earthquakes and droughts on Earth.  One-eyed monsters, called Cyclopes, teamed forces with the Olympians, arming Zeus with his thunderbolt, Poseidon with his trident and Hades with his hat of darkness – these gifts became their symbols of power.  The story ended with the defeat of the Titans.

Star Constellations
The seven Titan daughters that Poseidon helped to defeat were transformed into stars called the Pleiades as their punishment.
