Magical Herbs ~ Lavender

Merry Meet,

This is the first post of the magical herb topic, and as Lavender is one of my favourite herbs and is quite literally the "Swiss Arm Knife" of herbs, here we go!

History, Myth & Culture

In Ancient Greece & Rome Lavender was used to perfume bath water and was also burned as incense as offerings to the deities.

In African tradition women used Lavender for protection against spousal abuse.

It is said that the scent of Lavender can calm untamed Lions and Tigers.

People wore lavender for protection against the evil eye.

Prostitutes would wear lavender water or essential oil to both advertise and attract customers through magic.

Magical Properties

Health & Healing:
Add 9 drops of Lavender essential oil to your bath and visualise being of good health, if you are injured visualise the areas are healed

Love:
Use Lavender in love-drawing rituals to help change the way you consciously & emotionally think about love

Sex:
Lavender use during visualisation will help to maintain celibacy

Dreams:
Lavender will induce relaxation and peaceful sleep

Longevity:
It is believed that if you inhale the scent of Lavender daily you will have a long life

A cold compress or a drop of essential oil rubbed into the temples will relieve a headache

Lavender brings our over-emotional states to our conscious mind so that we can control them

Insect Repellent & Bites:
A drop of essential oil will ease insect bites, lavender as a whole can be used to repel insects

Cuts, Rashes &Burns:
Lavender massage oil or lotion will increase healing of minor burns.  An antiseptic wash of lavender can help minor cuts and burns; a wash, oil or lotion can be used to reduce rashes.
